Further down the slavery rabbit-hole

I sort of fell into a rabbit-hole of things related to the history of slavery in general, white slavery in history, and non-black slavery here in the US (because that’s so hyped so often and so everywhere I’m sick of hearing about it already). Here is a short list of “resources”, and I’ll do an update with basic commentary later.

This video does a pretty good job of summarizing things, and includes pictures of sources, quotes, etc. She get’s a little off-topic near the end, but 90% of it is pretty solid.

International Agreement for the Suppression of the White Slave Traffic, signed at Paris on 18 May 1904– just the fact they needed such a thing means it was a problem.

VERY SHORT SUMMARY

Humans treat each other like total shit when there is money to be made and work to be done. Every race, faith, or age will jump at the chance to exploit anyone more desperate than they are. There were a LOT of slaves going west to the new world, and many of them were white; they might have been called “indenture servants” but it’s a distinction without a difference. They were often treated as bad or worse than the blacks were while being shipped over, and once here, because the purchase price (i.e., the “initial invetment”) was smaller. No need to send a $1000 slave into the fever swamps when you can send a $0.35 cent a day Irishman or boy you picked up for a $10 contract that only costs you as much as it takes to feed him. It’s a horror story worthy of Dante. Anyone tries to play the “victim” or “reparations” card on me can just shut the hell up with now, or take a sailboat back to their ancestors continent of origin.
